OSTRA STUDIO Fetish Fashion Bondage S/M Paris 1930s

The fetish, bondage, female domination photographs, created by the combined talents of the Ostra and Biederer Studios remains some of the the most seductive fantasy imagery produced anywhere during the 1920s and early 1930s. Exceptional models, impeccably dressed in fetishistic clothing, were posed in submissive "tableaux vivante" and photographed. The studio team, comprised of two brothers, emigres to Paris from Hungary (the town of Moraska-Ostrava), created unparalleled imagery, posing talented models in marvelous fetish clothing. The final product, beautifully composed photographs, printed on the highest quality photo paper from excellent negatives, were unsurpassed and stand high above the rest of the 1920s/'30s genre photographs. Tragically, the brothers, Jews living in Paris at the time of the occupation, were sent separately to concentration camps in Germany, where both were killed. Curated from the Vasta Archives.

George Topfer 1920s French Spanking Drawings

Three erotic artworks by the French artist Georges Topfer, known primarily for his illustrations for flagellation novels published in Paris, late 1910s through to the early 1930s. Topfer's work appeared in over sixty bondage/flagellation novels including Petite Dactylo, Pension Whip, Sous Le Fouet, Miriam, Miss Cravache and Les Esclaves Moderne. His publishers included Orties Blanches, Librairie Franc-Anglaise and Librairie Artistique et Edition Parisienne reunies. Original graphite (pencil) drawings created in Topfer's very fine and detailed style with highlights in ink and white gouache; signed lower right corner. From deep in the archives.

Purchase from a client, however I believe these were once the property of the late Richard Merkin, celebrated artist, teacher, Manhattan dandy, indefatigable collector and author of the influential photo book, Velvet Eden. Original artworks by Topfer are rarely seen!

LE SOURIRE Art Deco Era Risque Satire ~ Paris '20s/30s

Sourire, one of the great French magazines of the art deco era, was a beautifully illustrated, risque humor and satirical review. A spin-off from the publishers of La Vie Parisienne magazine and utilizing many of the same artists including Cheri Herouard, Gerda Wegener, Maurice Milliere, Klem, Bonnote, Sacha Zaliouk, Rene Vincent and Leo Fontan. Another example of the abilities of Parisian publishers/editors of the era to pull together the best talent, to create an appealing, enduring publication.

Here's a sampling of some of my favorite vintage, original Ostra Studio photographs, all of which are available for purchase in my eBay store.
